Worlde Arcane: The Great Hall Of Guilds:
The Immortals

The Immortals are a group of fierce warriors that together make up the King's honour guard. All members of The Immortals are foreigners from afar. This is a custom since far back in time, when King Carl IV was killed by his own guards, who where followers of Carl's competitor to the Crown, Duke Philippe Griphon. Philippe was no fool: not to repeat the mistake of his successor, he reorganised the honour guard so that there was a minimal chance of them betraying him. He did so by recruiting men who had no connections to Daelows whatsoever. They came from Isle Obscura, Thapelel, Noitnetta, and other areas of the Worlde. They were often not Uman, because other races, such as Dwarves and Elves, were less prone to accept bribes or succumb to treachery. The Immortals carry no special uniform, but they all wear a breastplate of Dwarven design marked with the Royal insignia.

Anyone wishing to join this august group of elite soldiers must meet the following requirements:
  • Cannot have been born within Daelows Kingdom;
  • Must be a fierce and accomplished veteran of many battles;
  • May not have any title, any lord or vassals, nor any legal obligation to another person (with the exception of a wife);
  • Must be willing to remain at all times in the care and guardianship of the King of Daelows or another member of the Royal Family;
  • Shall, upon acceptance, be required to obey all orders of the King of Daelows and duly appointed officers of the Immortals, without regard to the preservation of his own life and limb.
Violation of any terms of this agreement shall result in penalties ranging from expulsion to execution by impalement.

Upon acceptance, the King of Daelows shall be pleased to provide each recruit to the Immortals with a suit of plate armour, a sword, and a stipend, as well as free room and board at Daelows Castle. Should travel be required, the retinue shall take care of all expenses. Leave of thirty days shall be granted each year, subject to cancellation in time of war or national emergency.
