There is no hard and fast rule regarding the reintroduction of a character, especially after the passage of a substantial period time. I would recommend something of a backstory to account for the absence, but the character is yers to do (within reason) as yew please.

Havta has been reactivated, have at his profile.

Take me, for example. I think I've brought Trask back from the dead... two, maybe three times now. Just remember, make it plausible. Make it dynamic!

Whatever yew do, though, it's a good idea to specify whenever it may be unclear to other players which language yer using. Even the colors don't show up the same on everyone's computer screen.

This comment was made in answer to a question in a quest thread, regarding using a particular font or color to indicate that a character is speaking Elvish. fwiw, I am in 100% agreement with the comment made above.

If a player has not downloaded the font another player is using, there will be no difference whatsoever in what that person sees. As well, we should all remember that there are players in this game with vision issues that do not allow them to read the website in color. For these players, a color change is meaningless. If yer character is speaking a different language, please consider, as is suggested in the comment above, letting us know by saying so.

After perusing for a western starting point and taking into account my character's background, I'd like to check with the mods before having Ferro wash up on Worlde Arcane: The Vericul Sea: The Thapul Ocean: The Great Western Channel: Riatha. I chose this specific area because after doing some research on the Western Channel, I don't believe Ferro could survive the trip all the way to the shores of Thapelel on driftwood. Please let me know if Riatha would be an acceptable entrance point. Thank yew!

Hehehee. Of all the places.

Riatha is actually a plot point, a goddess-warded island that no one can find without specific magickal aid. In theory, the area will eventually be open to the public, but not right now.

That would be really cool. Wouldn't it be groovy if we could do something like a google map yew could zoom in on? The map of Ufaeria has hyperlinks... how was that done?

Speaking of... alas that bit of forest past the the Daelows wood remains unnamed I think. That patch of geenery ends at the Daelows border which is only half way to the mountain range. No matter, I have a place I can call it.

I've been looking for the Herald, but it seems to have dissapeared! There are no links by the post boxes -- like there used to be most of the time -- no links on the nav bar...

I also can't find any announcement or sign of it going away, so perhaps I have only to blame myself?

Where has it gone?

Apologize for the quick double-post, but I found this (was a link from an old announcement post):

http://worldearcane.mysteryandmagic.com/Herald/z.herald.frames.shtml

But it's a bit outdated, it seems. Does this mean it's simply not been updated, or abandoned altogether? Or do I just have the wrong link?

I really like the scrolling navigation bar and the seal graphics but as the number of references to seals increases, they push the navigation bar down. There is probably some trick that I’m missing and that guy in the Apple commercials will probably blame it on Vista... but I can’t get to the link back to the M&M home page any more as its getting pushed off the screen.

By Töff (Töff)

Wednesday, September 9, 2009 - 3:08 pm GMT Edit | Link |

For now, just collapse any expanded menu item (make all triangles red).

Then go check yer screen resolution. I know somebody on an iPhone was having troubles, but yew should be running better than 640x480 on an actual computer.

The seals are due for a compression soon, I think. That should help.

And if it's just the M&M homepage link yer really hurting for, and nothing else is working, just bookmark it!

I have a Herald Q?=How do yew respond to a rumor? Like the 7 dead in Haven for example. How do i investigate such rumors, is there a MOD in charge of such? Or do i just take the rumor and create a story with it??

By The Walrus (Smurf)

Friday, November 20, 2009 - 1:56 am GMT Edit | Link |

Do you mean respond to the articles themselves, or respond in-game? If the former, just click on the headlines, and you can comment on them accordingly. If the latter, then... well, oftentimes, the articles will correspond to things that have happened in-game in the first place. The Haven article, for example, refers to a recent fight that took place there, and the event can be responded to like any other in-game event.

Generally speaking, the article already has a story attached to it, so it's not advisable to create a story about it without verification.

By The Boy Legend (Falcon)

Friday, November 20, 2009 - 2:08 am GMT Edit | Link |

Thanks Smurf, I was just wondering that for example if i went to Haven and started poking around if someone in game would respond to the poking!!

By Patriach of The UnderNeath (Cthulon)

Friday, November 20, 2009 - 2:14 am GMT Edit | Link |

On the other hand, ofttimes a rumor is exactly that - a bit of gossip cobbled into a story by the author, and may have no relation to the storylines happening in the referenced locale.

For example, the story "DOG-BABY BORN TO DAELOWS ROYALTY" might have some basis in a strain of lycanthropy in the Daelows bloodlines, or it might just be someone attempting to tarnish the reputation of a certain royal, or be little more than one in a string of stories attempting to discourage people from going to Daelows.

Investigations into the stories, in-game or out, in-character or out - might not reveal anything at all. So verification might be tricky to come by in some circumstances.

Still, I agree with Smurf in that someone somewhere generally has a motive behind even the most ridiculous of rumors, and so it would be wise to find and consult the author before creating a story based on it. But once yew have consulted, yew might easily create a subplot without interfering in the plans of the author.

Make sense, or have I made things as clear as Dwarven mudwine?

Utterly random comment, but I just wanted to say that I love the new Herald format. The sort of rolling-news approach means that yew don't need to wait for enough events to happen to put together the next edition. Very sensible.

How would one go about adding something? I only ask, because I happen to be a journalist in RL, too, and wouldn't mind offering some articles, if I came across anything.

I really like old English names but there are characters that are no longer used. I am using Windows 7 and every time I hit Alt and a number it pulls up SAVE AS. I suppose there is a way to change that but what a pain. Anyway, I seem to be able to copy and paste the characters if I pull them from some place else... At least it seem to look that way. Attention Mods= In Damsons profile, there is mentioned a bandit group The Shadow Mask. I was wondering how to make them available for anyone to use in a future story line of plot. Can i create a thread like (NPCs for use in future stories)!
Then tell a little about the group, like where to find them and what they do and how many exc, exc!!
This would be for anyone who has NPCs that could be used by anyone in the future!!

By The Midnight Lady (Damson)

Friday, January 1, 2010 - 7:55 pm GMT Edit | Link |

I should mention that this would be well within the RULES! I thought it would be nice to have a Thread to go too for certain NPCs that have already been in story plots, instead of having to make one up all the time when someone needs a NPC!
For example= If someone needs a assassian atempt, and are in Tenera The Shadow mask are already there for there use. Or lets say in Merchants walk Falcons friend KIP is there and his specialty is wilderness equipment Or Someone might run across the big Moore Cat RUMOR like Robyn and Mars did last year in Thapelel.

These are NPCs that have alredy been involved in story plots for everyone to use. The Thread would be a referance for anyone looking for Specialty NPC. And yew wouldn't have to create a profile for them. Just alittle info and a location of where they could be found.

David,

Thanks for the suggestion! We as mods already provide some consistency across storylines using LPCs. And when it comes to NPCs, I think most players prefer to create new ones based on their unique needs at a given point in time. Still, it's a fine idea, and there's no reason yew couldn't start a new thread under "Public Discussion" where people could post descriptions of reusable NPCs if they wish.

Even though LPC's already exist, I quite like the idea of reusable player-made NPC's. It's not something that would need to be "enforced" on other players if they chose not to use them, but if the reusable NPC was there, it'd be rather convenient in certain circumstances (like if yer having a bit of the ol' writers block lol).

For example, I've created a character, an NPC in Moonshire, named Cuthwen that I won't be using again once my character leaves that area and I'd not be opposed if someone else used her at some point in the future.

Please let me know what yew all think of the new Reusable NPC thread. Thanks again for yer friendly advise. I just thought it would be cool to have something like this for others to use if they wished.

Rule #9 states:
"Generally, because of the time involved to play characters well, players should limit themselves to 2 regular character accounts (PC's) at any given time."

As you are aware, we've already made an exception in your case. Please work on perfecting play with the characters you have before considering a sidekick.

Hey everyone.

I am looking to see if there is anymore information and history about the Shadow Elf/Eroshen race? I did find the small bit in the Races section.

I did a site search and mainly came up with posts in play. I could be missing something incredibly obvious! Wouldn't be the first time!
