Worlde Arcane: Thapelel: Oakwood Stand West
|
Oakwood Stand West is a semi-tropical forest, stretching from the northern most tip of Thapelel near Kioko Rinn down to the Gopago Rocks and then westwards to Torone Village. The forest, along with its eastern counterpart, was named by the Skyld invaders who mistook the common native trees of the forests for oaks. By the time the mistake was noticed the original native Pelel name for the forests had fallen out of use and all the Skyld drawn maps made use of the new name. Thapelel is now stuck with its oddly named forests, a blunt reminder of the continent's troubled past. Despite the name, the forests are still tropical in nature. Hot and humid through much of the year, Oakwood Stand West sees much heavy, warm rainfall, meaning that the interior is always dark, damp and muggy. The forest teems with life and travellers should be wary of the numerous poisonous reptiles and plants which make their homes here, as well as the thousands of biting insects which sometimes form swarms so thick that travellers will be forced to travel around rather than through them. Although there are many lesser trails leading through the forest the main one lies just south of the treeline and is known as the Santon Trail. Other points of interest in the forest are the dwarf village of Santon, and the abandoned Torone Village at the far western tip of the forest. |
