Worlde Arcane: Aniada: Daelows Kingdom: The Lorimar Road 7: The Daelows Corridor

Each section of the Lorimar Road spans a approximately a full days' ride, or roughly two days' march afoot.
Perhaps the most-travelled and most-protected portion of the Lorimar, this long stretch of highway passes numerous smaller villages, as well as the Gates of Greater Daelows, capitol of the most powerful kingdom in Aniada (and arguably in the Worlde). Traffic is heavy here, with soldiers, merchants, farmers-to-market, and dozens of eager adventurers seeking their next encounters. Mounted patrols of the Daelows Peoples' Guards, and occasionally a squadron of Daelows Light Cavalry, are frequently encountered.

•Eastward travel leads directly to Greater Dealows: Gates of the City, but a days' ride away
•Northwestward travel leads to Southern Green League, farther down the highway 'tis seven days' ride to Kiana or four days' to Churt
•Southwestward travel leads to Enchanter’s Highway, and five days' ride on to Terajin

Few of the refugees had made it this far from Terajin so the pair of travelers made excellent time. Several time they where forced off the road to make way for Daelows troops headed back the way they had just traveled.

“They go to reinforce the border ensuring what is happening in Terajin will not over flow to Daelows.” Vlad informed Clavis, Then as they began to see more and more merchant carts that where headed the same direction. “And some go for profit.” said Vlad, “One could wonder how much a stale crust of bread will bring soon?”

At first her gaze had been upon the girl who stared back, but then Taliera's slate blue eyes stared at Gaftin, not wavering at all as he spun his story. The Aero sat absolutely still as she absorbed his words, giving the illusion that she was hardly even breathing. These were the sort of things that she was taught before she left her home. In seeking to learn about the outsiders, one had to know how to listen, and if one was intelligent, they would know that to listen properly more than just the ears were used.

As his story of Sonora drew to a close, the woman inclined her head a touch and shut her eyes as a brief motion to show that she had been listening. For a reason she failed to comprehend, some of the people she had encountered previously fancied that when she sat so unresponsively, her mind must have drifted to some place other than the present, which was far from the case. As she opened her eyes again, she glanced around though her softspoken words were aimed for Gaftin.

"Thank yew. I understand now." It was a bit odd to say such a thing, for it was not as though he had spoken in riddles, but she meant that rather she knew why the happenings about them were as they were. Like many other things said to her that she cared to remember, Taliera would be able to repeat most everything that had just been spoken to her. That was why she did not often seek books and why she held her philosophy for them. Tomes are only as good as what is recalled from them.

Her hands moving from her knees to the lining of her blue cloak, her fingers ran along the seam as she thought. Plucking a bit of down from where it had apparently caught, she toyed with the silver fuzz, though all that would be seen was the occasional movement beneath the garment.

Taliera's mind had drifted to what Gaftin had mentioned about her help and she shook her head. It was twice that they had helped her with freedom, and she had only helped Legin heal thus far. Her debt was not repaid. Offering a smile, she glanced up again at the ebony-headed man with a slight nod.

"It sounds to be a worthy plan." That was as close to saying 'good luck getting rid of me' as it was going to get.

The elementelle lay still dormant.

(OOC:

Don't feel that yew have to take me along with yew. I'm sure it won't be too many years until some other travelers come by this way and chance upon Faer. But of course, what yew do or try to do is completely up to yew.)

By Gaftin Bellworn (Gaftin)

Monday, December 31, 2007 - 7:51 am GMT Edit | Link |

Gaftin looked around and took stock of those still about. Himelf, the little girl, Taleria, Legin, and Faer, whom Gaftin was unable to ascertain whether he lived or had died in his effort to protect everyone during the scuffle.

Lily was not to be seen about, the Olive skin man Jayvn and the swordsman had all taken thier leave apparently.

I do not know enough about elementals to know if Faer lives. I should like to get him to the Wizard at Krazz if I can. He fought valiantly to protect us, The least I can do is make effort to save him if possible. Perhaps the wizard can help.

With that Gaftin helped Legin to the wagon, after settling him in returned to see if he could somehow load Faer onto the wagon as well.

Monday, December 31, 2007 - 8:28 am GMT Edit | Link |

Taliera was quick to uncurl her legs from beneath her, standing up as Gaftin moved Legin. She watched, feeling that there was no need for her to try and help there. After all, she was rather clumsy as any would not hesitate to admit. If she were to involve herself, not only would that be an uncomfortable and less than fruitful experience for herself, but she could easily see herself accidently knocking everyone over and breaking something.

Instead she moved a few paces and knelt beside Faer in the soft grass. Biting her lip as Gaftin spoke, she nodded along with his words. Before this fellow, the Aero had never herself met a elementelle either. Everything she knew to be absolute truth (because there was always to be some degree of fictitious nature about rumours) was what she had heard and seen directly from Faer.

"One could hope..." Taliera trailed off as she extended one of her arms out from the crack in her cloak, letting it hover for a moment before her. Pausing in thought, her gaze shifted between the girl and Gaftin as the hues of a slight blush coloured her collarbone.

"If he lives, please, never tell him that I did this." With that, the woman touched the tip of her forefinger to her tongue so as to wet it before pressing it to the elementelle briefly. The action was odd, but the reasoning was simple. Previously when she had let her hand upon him, she had nearly been scalded. Now she was just trying to see if he was still hot, much the same way as a housewife would test an empty kettle to find it cool enough so that it might be cleaned.

Tuesday, January 1, 2008 - 2:42 am GMT Edit | Link |

The body of Faer is warm to the touch, in the course of some few hours it will cool to the temperature of it's environment as it's only potential source of heat -- faint as it is -- is nestled deep to near utter isolation. Transient tendrils of energy reach out to the surface of the body periodically and could be seen in dark conditions as shimmerings in cracks and recesses or felt as vague pulses of warmth easily mistaken for plays of the imagination.

The body behaves otherwise much like a lump of charred wood -- albeit considerably harder and more tamper-proof than mundane wood. It weighs about the same as a log of similar size, any two people of moderate muscular strength should be able to lift and handle it. It won't break.

(OOC:

Added the above to my profile under Appearance)

In his dreary state of twilight consciousness he heard, though he didn't listen, and he saw, though he didn't look. He might remember what he observed a later day more as a dream than anything else. Certain things he perceived much more clearly, however. For instance, now, an uncomfortable tingle of a foreign element.

In reflex a burst of heat stretched out toward the source of the disturbance in an attempt to appease or repel. In effect, little happened besides a wisp of steam as the fleck of moisture evaporated.

Relieved of all immediate disturbances, Faer sunk back into his state of ever-so-slow recuperation.

Gaftin struggled with Faer's wieght but managed to get his body, not completely bereft of signs of life, to the wagon. Though he was warm he was not hot enough to burn Gaftin and by extraction should pose no danger to the wagon either.

Getting Faer to the wagon had taken a great deal of effort so Gaftin rested before trying to get him onto the wagon.

Taliera's feet carried her soundlessly to where Gaftin had managed to wrestle Faer's apparently cumbersome body to. Looking between the wagon and Faer, much like a seamstress judging the pattern for a lady, Taliera sighed softly. This was just one of those days that kept on going. And going.

"I know this might be a senseless question, but would yew like some help?" Feeling a bit selfish for not asking before, the woman found herself judging his feet carefully. It was true that she was not particularly strong; it would probably take about three Talieras to lift Faer, give or take one. Then again, a little help was better than none by her figures, and as long as Gaftin kept his grip it would turn out alright.

Gaftin smiled at Taleria.

That would be most helpful. Thank yew.

Gaftin Sat Faer up ten crouched behind him. Hooking his arms with the elementals he stood lifting Faer with him. Bendng forward he slipped from under Faer's hull laying his uppur body on the bed of the wagon.

Here. Keep him from falling while I climb up. Once I start pulling him up if yew could lift his legs that would be of great help.

Taliera simply nodded in understanding, her eyes gauging the passings with care. The last thing that she wanted to do was mess up and drop the fellow. Wrapping her thin arms around the man, she again looked at Gaftin with a slight nod.

"Aye. Go ahead." Gripping Faer tightly, she was thankful for the wagon to support him too as he was very heavy to the lady. After a few moments, Taliera pulled up to lift the elementelle's legs for Gaftin, absently wondering if all of his type were as large as he was or if he was just a large fellow. Then, deciding that just because he might be bigger than others would not change exactly how cumbersome his weight was, she dropped the thought. Her blonde hair fell in her face and she gave a slight puff, but she did not drop the man.

As the man was loaded onto the wagon, Taliera looked up with a smile though rather red in the face. Reaching up and lifting herself into the back of the wagon, she looked between three there. Brushing that intrusive strand of hair behind her ear, she gave an approving nod.

"He's heavy."

Gaftin tugged Faer onto the wagon and when he was fully aboard, sat letting ut a great whoosh of breath.

He is indeed that.

Strausser stiffened as he urged his horse along the crowded highway. Before him stood the great gate and behind it the vast cosmopolitan seat of power of the King of Daelows. Even at this late hour the main thoroughfare leading what was arguably the greatest city in all the worlde was busy with carts and traffic. Not as bad as in the day but the meandering pace was because to fray his nerves. He had pushed his men all day, suffered their constant complaints and whining, even galloping the last few miles to get here as fast as possible only for the precious time they had gained to be squandered at this point. That said he knew better then to barge his way through the pathetic peddlers and their braying donkeys and lopsided carts. The mailed guards that lined the city’s high arched gates and walls and the regular patrols of Peoples Guard came down heavily on that sort of behaviour and Vallen would not thank him for losing his prize so close to home. That said if he delayed much longer then he would lose it anyway. The potion for all its advantages only lasted the best part of 24 hours and it would not be long before its effects failed altogether. If the guards found he had kidnapped a noble it would be the noose for sure no matter how much money they were bribed. There were just something’s yew didn’t do in this city. He just had to wait it out and hope he would get through in time.

The horses galloped on and still Skylar slept. Occasionally she would awaken as the horses hit a particularly rough part of the highway, but when she realised they were not stopping her eyelids would flutter closed and she would allow sleep to reclaim her once more. It was not a pleasant sleep; it was the sleep of one who slumbers only because there is nothing better to do, and Sky could feel her blood crawling sluggishly through her veins as lethargy overtook her. She was little used to being so inactive for so long and her body was beginning to protest.

By The Storm-Lord Ascendant (Xerestal)

Friday, March 27, 2009 - 9:15 am GMT Edit | Link |

Even in the gloom of evening, the road before the great gates of Daelows were filled with people - tired, beleaguered travelers winding towards the city from a million mundane adventures, looking for rest and comfort. In their midst, going nowhere, stood the tallest and darkest figure many of them had ever seen - and they could not help but see him, for though he was as black as midnight he glowed like a torch.

Though he was a spectacle, few stared at him, averting their eyes as they passed. Even the guards watched him only with the corners of their eyes, muttering assumptions to themselves behind mailed hands.

Xerestal paid them no mind. He was searching for a path - a path he knew he would find, if he but gave himself the time.

He had come in to a new realization. He felt the worlde more acutely than he had in the past - he felt it further and deeper than he had thought himself capable. He felt it in balance, and in chaos.

It was a new worlde to him, this worlde he had known so intimately for so long. It was with him, but it was no longer his; so long had his life been entangled with it, yet now with so fewer secrets to show him it had become smaller and stranger - as alien to him as he was to it.

Yet, it was across this worlde he must journey - and on his way, he would have to learn it anew.

"I know not where I am going." He said, aloud.

Tramer let a sigh as approached the kingdom of the Daelows, not that had ill feelings agents them, he simply felt the kingdom was to large for its own good. Though beyond that he new he was at bare minimum two weeks journey from the Seven Oaks…unless he passed though the enchanted forest? His wing had yet to fully heal, he would not trust it over the seas, though if he was to keep low making over the woods should be easy. He would have to get to the enchanters highway before he would risk taking to the sky, he was not about to be spotted by a patrol of the Daelows kingdom. Two to three more days of walking was head of him.
