Worlde Arcane: Aniada: Green Forest: The Lorimar Road 6: Southern Green League

Each section of the Lorimar Road spans a approximately a full days' ride, or roughly two days' march afoot.
So near Daelows, travellers on this path can expect the protection of the People's Guard and sometimes even the great Husaria (heavy cavalry) of Daelows. The Green Forest here, due in part to woodcutting, is slightly sparser than its other spreads, lending a pleasant, open feel with dappled sunlight and clean fresh breezes.

•Northwestward travel leads to The Goblin Stretch, farther down the highway 'tis three days' ride to Churt or six days' to Kiana
•Southeastward travel leads to The Daelows Corridor with Daelows City two days' ride away

By Sylvester Beauregard Vulpes - Fox of many talents (Sly)

Saturday, June 4, 2005 - 5:32 am GMT Edit | Link |

Sly gnawed and worried the bone while the delicate female waited on her meal to cook. He gnawed and worried it while she ate and the cat slept and the strange bird tried disturbing nesting birds.

He watched as the dear lady went to sleep and settled his own muzzle between his paws, the well-gnawed leg resting beside him. Like any fox, he slept with one eye half-open and both ears alert.

Sly was a patient fox and he was aware of the strange bird's function. He could wait, but perhaps not as long as he did with the centauress unless he found good reason not to make a meal of one of this group.

Tuesday, June 7, 2005 - 9:44 am GMT Edit | Link |

About four and a half hours later, Illy stretched and yawned, extending her wings upwards to their fullest - knocking a few branches in the process.

Rubbing her eyes she sat up, and blinked a few times to get the remaining sleep from her eyes. It was still very dark and the campfire now consisted of embers. She poked it a few times with a stick and it gave a feeble spark before returning to it's emberic state.

Standing up she walked over to Lyri who was half doozing still under the tree. "It is time to wake up," she whispered to the horse as she stroked her nose. Lyri gave a snort and a slight shake of the head. She hadn't walked much or hard earlier so rest wasn't something she needed, still she detested the woman waking her up.. it looked like it would become a habit.

Syn had flown over to the branch where the Cat was and began gently nudging at it's head, whistling softly.

Izzy had mounted in the mean time and called up to the bird and the cat. "Come on yew two, we can't stay here all night and Syn yew'll have to carry what's left of the meat until I can buy a couple of saddlebags. But no eating," she ended rather sternly.

Raiden sat up from his sleepy sojourn and meowed at Syn who had been nudging him. He stretched out in a long and lazy yawn as birds began to chirp around him in the early morning. This Ilalia character was sure one for early mornings he concluded as his morning-flimsy paws clasped into the bark on the way to the grassy ground. Raiden sped down the little tree and passing the drowsy fox he stopped up a moment to let out a quite loud hiss, glaring at red hunter with disdainful eyes. Raiden wasn’t always all that cheery in the morning.

Getting an early start out from their base camp on the northern leg of the Lorimar Road, a mounted patrol of six Peoples' Guardsmen rode at a quick walk westward. The men wore a motley collection of weapons and leather armour, only the purple sash each man wore distinguished them as a unit.

Looking about as they rode along the highway, the guardsmen noted the usual travelers' camps in the thinned-out forests at the roadside, outside of the villages along the route. Tracks led into the forests where other villages lay, but the Peoples' Guard patrolled only the highway. Their conversation was sporadic this early in the morn, later in the day they might have more to say to each other. Of course, late in the day would also find the patrol on the Churt frontier.

Sly merely tilted his head at the silly cat. So much fuss over nothing. When the time came, Sly would give the cat something to hiss about.

He sat up and watched as the female prepared to move on. He would follow, closer of course now that they were aware of his presence. Perhaps it might even look like he was part of their little group... perhaps not.

The Fox and Ilalia seemed to be content with remaining at the campsite for the time being. Raiden being impatient as this night had made him started in a brisk pace away from the camp towards Churt.

Sly slipped out of the camp to follow Raiden.

(OOC: from the Daelows mile)

Silvanna called a halt. It had been a long day, if not a strenuous one, and everyone would need their rest. As the sun disappeared over the horizon, the moon elf dismounted her wolf and again spred her bed roll on the ground.

"I'll take first watch," she said in a tone that clearly said the topic was not open for discussion, and smiling. "Once we get a fire going, and have our meal, that is," she added.

The freedom of travel had hightened the moon elf's spirits, though she remained as distant as ever at the moment. Silvanna set about to gathering a few twigs with which to start a fire.

By El'Ethalion Telphar the Half-Elven (Ethalion)

Monday, September 5, 2005 - 2:57 pm GMT Edit | Link |

Ethalion and Gerion dismounted. They had passed much of the day in silence, but strangely enough were still not ready for more talk. Each pulled out his bedroll and prepared it. Ethalion took out his tinderbox and lit the few twigs that had been gathered, while Gerion pulled some meat from his saddlebags. He offered to let Silvanna cook it for them, saying that she was probably a much better cook than either of them.

By The Exiled Lady Silvanna of Moonshire (Silvanna)

Tuesday, September 20, 2005 - 1:37 am GMT Edit | Link |

Silvanna regarded Gerion with raised eyebrows for a moment, seeming to be more amused than she was angry. "Yew assume that, just because I am female, I should be able to cook?" This was a loaded question, and the smile on her face said she knew it. If he answered no, he was insulting her culinary abilities, and if yes was his reply, he admitted to being sexist.

She left him holding the meat for a few minutes while she dug through various saddlebags for a skillet.

Iawe had settled just beyond the ring of the fire, her glowing amber eyes the only visible part of her in the darkness. The eyes regarded the two males with suspicion and barely veiled hostility.

Monday, October 10, 2005 - 2:54 pm GMT Edit | Link |

Gerion chuckled slightly at the question. Though he hated instances like this, he knew how to deal with them. "Actually, I was more insulting my own cooking when I said yew could cook better that us. We can make food, but it generally tastes bland or dry. It's never as good as when someone else cooks." He again extended the meat to the lady elf.

(OOC: Sorry about the delay. It has been a very busy time. It should only last another week or two, though; then I can get back to posting regularly.)

By The Exiled Lady Silvanna of Moonshire (Silvanna)

Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - 2:50 am GMT Edit | Link |

Silently applauding Gerion's creativity, Silvanna at last came upon a skillet and bag of spices. She held the skillet at arm's length by the handle for him to place the meat in before kneeling by the fire. She sprinkled the anonymous seasonings on the meat while it was still raw, the meat soon began sizzling and a pleasant smell wafted around the immediate vicinity.

(OOC: NO problem, believe me, lol)

Saturday, November 12, 2005 - 3:56 am GMT Edit | Link |

Once the meat had finished cooking, Silvanna left the skillet beside the fire and motioned for Ethalion and Gerion to help themselves. She replaced the bag of spices in its respective saddlebag and drew her sword.

Nothing dramatic happened then, but she simply sat down next to Iawe and began sharpening the weapon. Silvanna was not at all uncomfortable with the silence that had creeped upon their camp.

(OOC: I'm going to go ahead and move Silvanna on, feel free to catch up when yew can)
Silvanna did not wake the other two so that they could take a watch, but let them sleep through the night. It was very early in the morning, not yet dawn, when she attempted to wake Ethalion, but he seemed deep into a nightmare. He opened his eyes and stared right at her, without really seeing her, then returned to his sleep.

Taking a bit of the remaining meat, Silvanna left the two men sleeping by the fire, deciding she'd go ahead a ways and see if there wasn't a place to get a decent bath.

Mounting Iawe, who had been asleep until ten minutes prior to the moment, Silvanna clicked softly for the white horse carrying her possessions to follow her. The moon elf would not take the chance that Ethalion or Gerion woudl steal from her, though they seemed noble enough....

Leaving her tracks uncovered for the purpose of directing them to her when they awoke to find her gone, Silvanna rode ahead.

As the boy fell asleep Jaiden could him become more relaxed and had to adjust his gait slightly so he didn't fall off.
He wondered where this journey might take them but silently wished they could keep running.

"{There is not much further to run Jaiden, however I fear we are running into a battle we cannot win, Irigu has passed onto me what we are doing beyond getting yew some herbal medicine, we are to pick up some Uman slaves and return them to Daelows, but we are likely to get there before Irigu and his guardians arrive}"

Reeurg said over her shoulder.

Monday, January 23, 2006 - 8:55 pm GMT Edit | Link |

Hundreds of questions poured through his mind, but fortuantley for Reeurg his bag made it impossible for him to answer back.

He wondered to himself why on earth would a wolvian clan go out of their way to rescue Uman slaves? and if they had to get these people... wouldn't there 'owners' be with them and object slightly to them just carting them off to Daelows. And what would the Guards of the city think!! imagine trying to walk in - two Wolvians, a handfull of slaves or more and a boy?? Jaiden could feel the sword points at this throat and could help but kick himself for getting involved.
But still with a sigh he kept running, his front paws were begining to get sore, he wasn't used to carrying someone but he tried not to show it.

Aira was promptly startled from his thin slumber by a series of low growls and barks ahead of him, but before he made any hasty reaction he reasoned that it must have been either Jaiden or the grey she-Wolvian they were traveling with. He blinked heavily to chase away any remaining drowsiness and stretched his muscles as much as he could without loosening or changing his grip on Jaiden’s neck.
“I guess I dozed off a bit…” he said to Jaiden, interrupted by a large yawn, “but now that I’m up, could yew tell me what she was saying?”
The youth noticed the bag clenched between his friend’s jaws and cautiously removed a hand from his neck and reached out toward it, offering to hold on to it for him and make it easier for him to answer.

OOC: Let us say that we are now moving into night time.

Reeurgg continued running, the skies were beginning to darken, however this did not slow the she-wolvian, Wolvians could see quite well in the dark, and she knew the urgency of the task, Irigu had informed her that the Attack force now had gained a large number of frightened slaves and they'd need Jaiden's skills to calm them down.

Reeurgg was not as confident in Jaiden as Irigu seemed to be.

[ooc: apologises for the lateness my college course gave me a rather nasty assignment and I have yet to catch up on missing sleep O.o]

Jaiden was thankful as the boy took the bag, as he ran he stretched his jaws alittle - the cramps from holding it slowly starting to go away.

"It seems we have a quest young on, a rescue mission actually - might turn abit ugly. Seems some slaves are in need of liberation. We may or maynot have back up. I apologise of saying this though but I must warn yew: Yew might want to keep yer head down - hide in the bushes somewhere anything to keep out of sight. If things go wrong the guards may not look kindly to a possible escapee - Aeros slaves are hard to come by and yew won't be able to get away from them."
It was easy to tell what the boy was, his scent was not Uman - slightly more pleasant and 'feathery' Similar to the summerblossoms aop Aerie peak itself of course the linging tang of slave pitts could still be detected but by only a good enough nose, and there would be only one reason an Aeros would have no wings.

It was odd to listen to his voice, it had taken on a commanding tone that though wasn't threatening or harsh but was stern enough to need no answer in return, it called for obediance and yet didn't give a sound of punishment just the hint of bitter disappointment if it wasn't heeded.

"Promise me Aira, promise me yew won't be seen. I vowed to protect yew but yew must understand that I can not and will not harm another being be it good or evil. When the guards are dealt with I may need yer help calming down the people they imprisoned."

He barely registered the nights gentle coming, his mind focused on what might be waiting for them and also he would need to take another pill soon... one left after that one.. no he'll stave off taking the pill until morning the effect would be slightly decreased but the allergies wouldn't be so bad.
~Hopefully~ he thought to himself ~one day my body will get used to the change and I won't be dependant on these. Only if yew wish it so Great One. I hope yew picked the right wolf for this role though I suppose even yew must understand as this worlde changes so must we... adapt and survive. Nature's law. I have adapted and I will survive.~ His mantra, his hope.

Aira’s bright eyes flashed with a strange mixture of rage and determination at the mention of liberating the slaves. Icy needles drove themselves into his spine as thoughts of retribution and freedom intermingled in the forefront his mind. He focused on Jaiden’s voice as best he could, but he couldn’t quite prevent his thoughts from wandering
I would do anything to try and help the slaves. Will I have to kill? Is it right to kill for something like this? I will help the slaves, but I don’t know if I can bring myself to kill. Thorrin taught me to fight for the things I hold dear, but am I fighting for their freedom or for my own feelings…
The Aeros thought a little more on the subject and steeled himself in his resolve to do everything he can to aid the escapees.
“Jaiden, forgive me, but I can’t sit idly by while these people are suffering”, his voice was bold but not forceful.
“I will do my best to keep myself hidden, but it wouldn’t feel right to leave these people on their own when I am perfectly capable of helping them. Don’t worry about me; I’ve been training for a day like this.”
Just because he won’t fight doesn’t mean that I have to abstain from violence he thought with a hint bitterness. The fact that such malice could manifest itself in thoughts about his friend made him wince with regret.

Friday, February 3, 2006 - 2:51 am GMT Edit | Link |

"Don't be foolish! Which would yew rather be? The dead idiot or a living hero? Don't worry, these people won't be on their own - me and our lady-friend there will be doing our best get between them and the guards, and I imagine Reeurgg will be letting blood fly," the last statement was said with a mixture of a smirk and sadness. and Jaiden paused for a moment before continuing - almost making a compromise, "I will ask this of yew, IF and only IF yew see a safe opening to flank around and make contact with the people from behind, maybe yew could lead them to a safe clearing alittle way from the fighting. But no stupid risks remember one mistake from yew can get all those people killed. I'm trusting yer judgement on that young one, Maybe yew can persuade them to rise up against their opressors - just remember yew've been free, had hot meals, sleep and rest - these people will be weaker straved and tired they might make a poor army."

His voice was tense and worried, the boy was headstrong and eager for revenge it seemed and it might do more harm than good - though he had an idea that might give the boy something to ponder so in his best impression of an evil sneer he semi whispered.

"Beside what good is making them suffer if yew kill them? wouldn't it be better to put them on the otherside of the bars? She how they live bread and water for the rest of there lives. Besides, I've heard in prisons the men there always greet the new people with love and attension for some strange reason mostly at night time,"

Mikkal, a Hafling friend of Jaiden's from H'jek daru had often been in prison due to his quick-fingered nature and only escaped the treatments because he had a nasty habit of hiding blades on him. His bunk mate wasn't so fortunant and the top dog had taken a liking to him - throughout his sentance the man had never been able to sit down properly or sleep soundly.

The youthful Aeros recoiled at his chiding, but nodded in submissive understanding to his friend’s reasoning.
“Jaiden, yew have my promise that I won’t get myself killed, but also know that I’ll hold fast to my beliefs. As long as I can stay out of the slavers’ grasp, I’ll be fine,” Aira smirked and added, “The slavers themselves, however, will be hard pressed to escape my reach.”
He paused and thought on the Wolvian’s last statement, and after a few silent moments he said in a detached voice, “No. Death may be too good for them, but I wouldn’t wish a life of slavery on anyone.”

Reeurgg did not understand what they were talking about, but it seemed slightly heated to her, not that it mattered.

They were only a short time's run from where they'd have to divert into the green forest as the freed slaves had been gathered there, Reeurgg had hoped that Irigu would get there first, but it was not looking like he would.

She continued running in the darkness of night.

Deciding not to reply to the boy, Jaiden couldn't help but be slightly nervous of what was happening.

But despite being hard to think of the upcoming battle he did his best to focus on it. It kept his thoughts away from the growing numbness in his front paws, his 'fingers' weren't as strong as they should be and were begining to ache. There was also the familiar flush of heat on his skin and he knew within a few hours he would have to take another pill or he'll drive himself crazy from the itching.

"{Reeurgg, I'm worried about the boy - he might do something rash and put those slaves in danger. As much as I hate to admit it but him being unconcious might be in our favour. Do yew know of any herbs or plants that might make him fall asleep? He'll hate me afterwards but I'm used to it.}"

Tuesday, February 14, 2006 - 3:55 am GMT Edit | Link |

After what seemed to be an eternity to his cluttered mind, Aira’s head finally cooled a bit. He spoke a few words, so quiet that he couldn’t even hear himself, then cleared his throat and said them a bit louder.
“Jaiden, I’m sorry”, the youth waited a few moments and then added, “I was getting ahead of myself. Why, if my mentor had heard me speaking just now, he would have surely clouted me, even if he agreed with the idea. He was always telling me that I was too impulsive. Forget what I said earlier; I promise that I will act in the interest of the slaves and not do anything to harm them or myself.”
The oath had a practiced air about it, as if he was used to making such apologies. Aira resumed his thoughtful silence; the former chaos that was raging in his brain had been directed to reviewing his teacher’s ambush tactics, more to occupy it for the time being than for any other reason.

Trees, branches, leaves were moving rapidly in front of the running she-Wolvian. Reeurgg listened to Jaiden, and was surprised for a moment. Put the boy asleep? What was exactly the relationship between these two? Her doubts of Jaiden deepened even more, but she tried to remind herself that Irigu knew what he was doing. Besides, perhaps Jaiden was right. Having the boy around during the whole mayhem might be more than problematic.

She sniffed at her surroundings as she ran, searching after a very specific odor. At last, she sensed it.

"{Soon, in front of yew, at yer left, yew will see a small bush with long, jagged, yellow-green leaves. This is Graakhaw. If chewed, or rubbed upon the nostrils, it would put one to sleep. But how are yew to achieve that? We have little time to waste, Jaiden!"}

By Jaiden Lu'frye (Jaiden)

Thursday, February 16, 2006 - 9:44 pm GMT Edit | Link |

On the run he kept his eyes looking out for the bush, then he spotted it and without missing a stride reached out and grabbed a large handful. Same as before he held the sprigs close to him and ran on three legs with practised ease.

"Aira, listen to me, I have an idea but it's risky. This is a kind of sleeping bush - if yew chew it or rub it against yer nose: it will put yew to sleep. Hopefully there will be enough to go round, This is to be used only if things go badly for me and Reeurgg yew hand this to the slaves and tell them to chew it and take some yerself. An extra body amongst them won't be noticed and they would asume the slaves ran in fear at the 'two monsters' attacking, the guards won't accuse yew of trying to 'steal' them but more importantly it will give me and reeurgg atrail to follow so they don't escape. I know it would be alot to ask of yew but it's only a worse case scenario. Will yew do it?"

Jaiden hoped above hope that the boy would consent, he had run out of ideas to try other than 'accidently' run into a tree branch and tie the boy to a trunk, but that would leave him completely helpless if anyone was about... or anything... and he was scared for the young lad.

Aira exhaled is if he had been kicked in the gut when he fully understood Jaiden’s request. He tried to speak but his thoughts jumbled together like a pile of yarn. Without sorting them, he snatched up an idea and let it tumble from his lips.
“It won’t work,” the Aeros managed to say, but the look on his face exposed him for his lack of reasoning. Determined to think of some proof, the youth made a pass at an explanation.
“What slave carries weapons and wears armor? I could take it off, but I still don’t know if they’d buy it.”
His hand reluctantly grabbed the herb and he placed it into his pack.
“Although, a back-up plan is always a good thing to have,” Aira paused, but when he resumed his voice had a serious edge that cut the silence like a razor.
“But only if things look bad. I’ll do it, for yew… but only as a last resort.”

"Thankyew Aira, We'll try and make it so that we don't have to use that last resort."

His muscles burned and each time his feet make contact with the ground pins and needles shot up his arms. He winced, though there were many times he had run before (usually from other wolvian packs or men on horse back) he had never run this long or with someone on his back - though Aira did weigh very much, the running style had to be adjusted which made long runs slightly difficult.
He was determined not to show it firstly there were lives at risk and another rest might put them in danger. But secondly and something he would not admit to, even to himself... he wanted to impress Reeurrg.

He concentrated on each step, trying to get alittle more speed out of his exhausted body. Clearing his mind of all thoughts and just listening to the rythym of the run.

His main goal at this moment.. not to mis a step and fall..

Reeurgg could tell that Jaiden was starting to suffer for the pace that he was not build for, to a degree she did feel sorry for him, perhaps he had not called his unique desire upon himself, but something else had caused them, still there was nothing for it the pace must be kept and they were now nearing their goal.

Just then she recieved a message from Irigu, he informed her not to go to the Orc road block, for a large Uman army had arrived there and he was not sure of their purpose there or if they were to aid or hinder the Wolvians plans, Reeurgg was to join the Uman slave's escorts, Irigu was going to try and meet with the Uman army.

"Roh, we go to the green forest now, we can slow our pace somewhat for the escort is nearby, we shall be returning to daelows shortly, but at the pace of the escort, I'm sure that will ease yer muscles"

Jaiden could not reply breathless as he was, he was good at running but even this stretched his limits. He was deeply impressed that the slim figure infront of him still looked as though she could run for days and mentally kicked himself, though more out of a bruised ego, for seeming so weak.

His tongue lolled from his mouth, dry and hot from the panting it was most uncomfortable but he was determined to show he was still wolf if only in part.
His pad's burned with painfull numbness and he battled to push it aside using the meditation techniques his Brother's had taught him.
He wasn't really aware she had spoken, his whole focus was on following her any break in this concentration would send him crashing to the ground and he wouldn't get up for a good long while.

The Aeros sighed quietly with relief when the gray she-wolf that was leading began to slow down and turn into the forest. He felt a somewhat bewildering sense of guilt with every labored breath that Jaiden drew and with every pained step he took. He knew that his new friend would be in much better shape right now if only he had not attached himself to the Wolvians.
Determined to do anything he could to comfort his friend, Aira began to scan the forest for a stream or brook where he could fill his canteen and for any tree that bore fruit.

Quillia stepped out of the trees and onto the road. She chewed upon a blade of grass as she considered her next destination. This part of the road was deserted. . . at the moment anyway, and the half-elf archer strolled southward for awhile, enjoying the solitude and the sounds of her forest.

The afternoon sun played along the lines of the many tattoos on her tanned shoulders as Quillia considered her current situation. She was in need of little as the forest of her birth provided her with everything from food to material for her clothing and arrows for her bows. She adjusted the two bows she carried now as well as the quiver of bone-tipped arrows on her back. Her casual step belied the nagging concern the young woman wrestled with in her mind.

The sight, the day before, of a much-strengthened and fortified Orcan outpost had disturbed her greatly. She had taken to the trees to look over the new battlements, to count the Churt Orcs, to see the weaponry lining the walls and standing ready for use. Quill had been arguing with herself ever since, something she was apt to do when presented with moral issues. . .

The kingdom should be informed. . .well, what makes yew think they don't already know? Ack. . . Orcs. I've seen no Royal Guardsmen, not a soul for days leave that silly Lady in her striped tent. . . maybe I should have warned her! Pah. . . they better not think the forest be belongin' to them! Maybe I SHOULD go to Daelows. . maybe if I just get close enough I'll run into a soldier or somebody else I could tell. I am needin' some iron tips for my hunting arrows. . I'll head south. . .for a bit anyway. . .

The sound of a snapping branch, whether it broke from old age, the light wind that blew or the weight of an Orc, sent the archer back into the forest in a moment. .. she would head south alongside the road, but keep to the trees.

Of course, late in the day would also find the patrol on the Churt frontier....

Two lone figures trudged along. One wore long grey and blue robes clasped with a Trinsic Wizards Gilde broach. The other was obviously a soldier from the way he held himself and the way he walked. Both however were obviously exhausted; their pace was slow and their heads hung as if they could barely keep them up. From time to time Ben glared upward at the sun as if it were an enemy he had to beat into submission, while Stephen merely walked by him, expressionless, ready to catch his cousin if he fell.

The road to Cabermyer came into view and Ben briefly considered stopping off at the Duchy. He had not been there for a few years and had not seen the family for even longer, bar a younger member who had been studying at the Academy. Trask he knew was travelling, possibly with Ben's uncle Qim, but the Duchess would be there. And she would be welcoming he was sure of it.

Just as quickly the thought was dismissed. The gem had to be taken somewhere to be destroyed, and that was final. They had to return to Trinsic as soon as possible.

So on they walked. Toward home.

Camaris allowed Feneen to follow the wide road at her own pace. Camaris closed his eyes and allowed the spring sun to warm his old bones while his hound ran from one bush to the next terrorizing woodland creatures.

After a few hours, Camaris reined in Feneen at a little grassy patch beside the road. There he sat resting and munching on a bit of the food he had brought from the manor and watched as fellow travelers trundled by. Most of them were peasants who instinctively moved to the far side of the road when they passed him. He took no heed of them.

He remounted after a time and continued south. Some clouds had gathered in the east and he didn’t relish being caught out in the rain before setting up camp for the night.

The clouds kindly held off raining until the old man had finished setting up camp. Then it poured.

Under his oiled canvas tarp, Camaris enjoyed a pleasant meal of roast grouse spiced with some herbs he had brought from Stokesay Manor. While the dog finished the last of the carcass and Feneen munched nearby grass, Camaris leaned back against the saddle and sighed. He wrapped his blanket around himself and was soon fast asleep.

Morning broke bright and early and cloud free. Camaris took a deep breath, inhaling the sweet morning air. This was his favourite time of day.

He packed camp as he munched on some bread and cheese and then saddled and mounted Feneen. His dog barked, excited to be with its master and raced off ahead.
He patted the palfrey's strong neck and they continued south.

Imp and Amanda were lucky to hitch a ride with a farmer, taking two wagons to Daelows. Two wagons of mushrooms, tobacco and earthworm root. Imp was in wolf-form and Amanda told the farmer the wolf-dog was great at guarding camp.

So they made pretty good time, and easy, too, and by end of the day reached Village of Malhak.

Faer was unaware that he had been moved onto the wagon, the consequences of this fact, however, were clearly felt. The strong elemental presence he had felt since the start of his circumstance was suddenly gone. The void it left remained ingrained in Faer's being as the now absent presence became apparent as impossibly more complex than the myriad of lesser elements now surrounding him. In retrospect, the presence had been a god compared to the elements he was accustomed to. He knew, however, that it could not be a god since the One was, in essence, the relatively simple -- albeit powerful -- element of Thunder. Faer did not have the faculty of his memory and knowledge within reach, so he could not yet identify the presence as the Everblessed.

This loss was detrimental to Faer's state. His recuperation slowed and his faint cognitive abilities waned.

Only when the wagon gave a slight lurch from an uneven depression in the road, did Taliera find herself jarred from her thoughts. Her pale eyes rested on the elementelle's body unbreakingly as she just now realized they were moving. It took a moment more before she remembered that she had failed to answer Gaftin. Chuckling slightly at herself, Taliera let her chin rest on her knees, assuming that he would have figured the answer fittingly enough.

It was simply that she did not know any more about the child than did the others and could see no reason why she should be consulted over such a thing. That was like asking a beggar the prices for a night's keep at the town's best inn; they might know, but the chances were slim. Thinking of chances, Taliera's gaze still rested on Faer, feeling a twang of guilt.

Not wanting to think about that, the woman moved to the back of the wagon and peeked at the ground below. It did not seem that they were moving too fast. Turning again and pressing her back to the wood of the wagon, she contemplated simply taking a nap. Every time that she shut her eyes, though, she could still see the others in her mind's eye and her heartbeat sped. The darkness behind her eyelids and the closeness of other bodies were not things that sat well upon her claustrophobia.

Her eyes shooting open, Taliera gave not another thought of it. She quite literally leapt out of the back of the wagon. Stumbling as her feet made contact with the ground, the Aero very nearly fell over, catching her balance just in time. Letting out her breath, she stood there for a moment, collecting herself and deciding that if she could help it, she was not going to do that again any time soon. Turning quickly, she jogged until she was walking just a little to the left of the wagon.

Gaftin was only vaguely aware of the others as the wagon ambled slowly down the road. He had fallen into a deep brooding since the events of last night. He was unaware of the fact that Taleria had gotten off the wagon until she suddenly appeared beside him walking.

It's along way to the next stop. His tone was flat as if it was a simple statement of fact and not really directed to anyone in particular.

Taliera turned her gaze upon the raven-headed driver as he spoke. Cocking her head to the side, she glanced at the road up ahead. It was one of those roads that just seemed endless, so she had hardly any trouble believing what he had said. She was not able to discern, however, if he was trying to tell her to get back in the wagon or if he was just stating a fact. Actually, she only assumed he was talking to her because it was a choice of either herself or the animals; she placed herself a little higher in the order of things.

"How long is a long way?" Taliera did not glance again at him, assuming that he would make the connection that she was talking to him and not the pulling force for the wagon. Instead her eyes were currently entertained with the dirt they were moving across and the way little puffs of dust kicked up in a trail behind them.

Gaftin pondered for a moment before responding. Well, best I can recollect...it is about four leagues before we leave the road. Another four or five leauges to the Legs of Krazz. I would say two weeks travel thereabouts.

He seemd to shake off his funk temporarily and appeared to cheer a bit as the miles slowly passed by. By late afternoon the wagon approached the boundries of "the Goblin Stretch" where Gaftin pulled over and set about setting up camp for the night.

After starting a fire Gaftin carried Legin to it with as gentle a touch as he would while putting a toddler to bed. It took substantially more effort but he also managed to get Faer close to the fire. For lack of any other knowledge of elementals, he figured it may be helpful to keep him as near the fire as he could hoping it might somehow help in his recovery.

The Girl had been following in their wake on and off, sometimes her presence obvious, at other times hardly possible to notice, though it seemed more like she didn't notice where she were or realised where she was going or that she was following a group of people. But in the recent minutes her presence seemed to intensify and she looked slightly more disoriented as usual, as a child would after waking up from a haunting nightmare. Her eyes found Taliera and there seemed, in her eyes, a sense of comfort.

Taliera had not said anything as the time went by, overjoyed when they reached the campsite. She was exhausted to the point that her eyes drooped slightly much like a child fighting sleep. Watching mostly but helping where she could, Taliera was looking forward to a night's rest. Still, as it drew closer, she drew her wings tighter to herself in memory of what had happened.

Soon resting again a pile of wood she had moved not to far from the fire, Taliera found her mind wandering, though where it had wandered from or where it was going to she was not sure of. As her eyes drifted as well, soon coming to rest upon the Faer that brought a mental sigh. All of this trouble and what happens to those that try to help? They end up gripped by rigor mortis.

What is in a body, anyhow? A soul perhaps? What if the only purpose of a soul is to inhabit a body, to control it? Then, when the body is no longer strong enough to hold it, the soul would fall out much like a tooth out of the gum. What is the point in being good if all that comes from it is to be homeless again? Realizing that her eyes shifted and now rested on something staring back at her, Taliera was jarred from her thoughts.

"Hello." It was mere something to hopefully ease the awkwardness of staring at the strange girl. Taliera's keen eyes drifted over the child that seemed to fool her eyes, taking in the details she could see.

Azure-clad figure suddenly freezing to a void of motion once more, the Girl's gaze was diverted by alien thoughts, her deep blue eyes flickering with something strange.
There was a realisation, she knew, of what had happened earlier, a string of chaotic events that would surely have shaken her companions, but all the time there was a recurring vision that would not let go of her and seemed to speak louder than anything physically happening around her. It was with a sense of clarity that her gaze shifted once more to look at Taliera.

With the lightest steps devoid of sound, her shadow an unsteady presence, she moved closer to Taliera and watched her for a short while before she spoke. "None of us know" she whispered, as if in answer to questions she couldn't have heard. "But we are still alive. We don't think yew have to worry anymore, for the storm has passed and the clouds have spreading, farther than our minds would comprehend". Her eyes turned to look at Faer, a sense of wonderment apparent in her facial expression. "We saw her again... it had been a little while since last time, but we saw her again" the Girl continued to whisper. "The one who gave me this" the Girl held up the strange black tome that she was always carrying. "And she seemed like yew, only.." the Girl's gaze shifted again, now looking at Gaftin "...not the same colour.

A sudden vision abruptly attempted to intrude Taliera's mind, the image of a kindly woman surrounded by candles, sitting in marble floor, reading in a tome and yet talking... As if someone were in the room with her. "Yew see her too, now. We've wondered so long, for we keep seeing her". The Girl's whisper was followed by a continuation of the vision, the woman reaching out for some unknown object, shrouded in blackness, although just as the female figure attempted to touch it, it fell, and was taken by an weird hand. The woman's figure is a blur at first and then fades away completely.

"Maybe yew could not see it. But we did. It is a crystal, and we are starting to think that it is very significant indeed" the Girl's eyes met Taliera's. "Yes, it is late, yew should get some sleep, maybe afterwards we should talk more". Just as the adolescent apparition had finished the last sentence, her gaze flickered once more, and her usual state of disorientation was renewed, and she sat down on the ground, opening her strange tome.

Taliera was considerably startled at first when the girl spoke. The nameless did not seem to fancy many words, and that should have been clue enough that whatever she had to say should be worth listening to. However, the note she struck with her first words stopped her in the middle of eating her biscuit, the food poised only waiting to be bitten from.

Then the confusion and surprise faded into a sort of awe, and she sat there completely enthralled by what was being said. Something in the back of her mind thought that it was odd that the girl used the a collective "we", Taliera neither spoke of it or paid it any attention. She sat absolutely still as she listened, trying to understand. Her eyes widened considerably, resembling small slate coloured saucers as the images crept into her mind.

Taliera found her eyes resting on the girl and the tome she held for a long time after everything was faded and spoken. She knew not quite what was going on, feeling a bit like a child without understanding. Instead of speaking, however, she nodded slightly and slid back against the tree. Rest sounded good, and they both had suggested it. Later she could ask questions; later she would approach things with a clear mind.

Pulling the dark blue hood of her cloak over her head, the woman leaned against the bark and pulled her knees under her chin. Looking like a rather large mound of dark blue fabric, the Aero slipped away into a troubled slumber. She would occasionally murmur quietly in that avian-like language as protest against the troubles of her sleeping mind.

Gaftin listened as the girl spoke. She fascinated him. She seemed so vacant yet at times she spoke with the wisdom of the mages it seemed. Gaftin had never spent much time around such people as he was a denizen of the courts. Wizards, mages, and magickers made him nervous. Now this girl was doing the same it seemed.

Gaftin was looking at Taleria but keeping an eye on the girl. What is she talking about? What does she mean?

When one is utterly exhausted, sleep comes fast. That was the reason that Taliera could not be entirely sure if she had been sleeping or drifting as she heard Gaftin speaking. She knew better than to ignore someone in situations like the present. Lifting her head groggily so that she could see from a thin crack beneath the hood of her cloak, she just gazed out at him for moment, but then her eyes flicked to the girl.

"Um..." She slowly shook her head back and forth, looking much like a drunken monk. There was a reason that she listened instead of speaking. This was difficult to understand. No matter how sharp a mind was, if it was traipsing foreign lands while subdued by exhaustion, then even the sun could be a confusing thing. Taliera squinted at Gaftin, though it was not for clearer view - she could see just fine.

"I am not entirely sure." She knew what had been in her head and what the girl had been speaking of, but it was something that she could not explain. There was a difference between looking at threads for healing and what she could have sworn had just happened. "Maybe yew should ask her. She speaks as well as I." Also, Taliera had an interesting view on the girl. Thinking about it, the girl's words seemed deeper than she could explain (that probably had something to do with how mysterious they were). Everything from just after she collapsed to now... Taliera felt like a little girl again, wanting to know but only able to offer questions. It was not at all a comfortable feeling.

Her eyes staring madly at the skies as though she were expecting to be attacked by a flock of birds, the Girl was still without the same confidence and presence of mind she had displayed earlier, as if unaware of their comments and questions. She was stroking the spine of her book and muttering something inaudible though whatever those words were, they were filled with fear.
She breathed rapidly, a single tear appearing in her right eye, and for the briefest of moments the sound of her sobbing had an eerie echo to it, as would a spectre’s moaning. But then as though a realisation dawned on her, her breath grew steadier and she seemed once more to be in control of her faculties.

“I am… I am sorry. The forgotten shape oughtn’t be here.” The Girl faced Gaftin. “A mother of mothers… long ago now, then, when? It went wrong and she should have died. But we’re still here, still here. Cheated him, but I didn’t do it on purpose!” just on the verge of spiralling out of her senses, she steadied herself. “Visions laced with the promise of steel, as she’d know it from books, or the touch of glass. And claws. Cannot trust claws. She knows they’ll try to steal what is most precious to us. There was lost memory, and…. Yes, accidents. Countless as the stars, and led us here. Where did we go?” her eyes found the Elementelle. “Drained like the rest of us, we just do not know. Time was long run out.” With a serious expression, she resumed subjecting Gaftin to her attention. “Yew should not have had a chance. And yet the chance was yers. Is. Will be? Time stolen, we do not know why. Cannot seem precise, doing… what will we see or say?
She will wake up, and so will the rest. Questions. She has been gone from us for so long, though we love her. Yes, her mother cheated death. We are stealing her dreams. A crystal. One had it, but it was stolen. She saw it.” The Girl pointed at Taliera. “Now we must wake up. Lost. Hurting. Bleeding, no better vessel. The book belonged to our mother. Gone, gone… But we are with yew for now. Answer… if we can, but no promise.”

Taliera watched with a fidgety nervousness. It was in her nature not to keep around those dangerous things. Fair enough, she did not see the girl as dangerous, at least not from what she had seen so far, but the girl sparked a nervousness now - a confusion. Given that Taliera was meant to stick it out and learn even if these two did not know it, she was far from the most valiant of hearts.

In fact, as the girl continued to speak, Taliera slowly raised her head until her entire round face could be seen peering from the hood of her cloak. In this face were set two slate-coloured eyes peering on with an obvious skittishness. From merely her expression, one would almost expect the bundle of fabric to just suddenly dart away. The Aero visibly winced when the accusing finger was aimed at her, as though she feared being struck like a little girl disobeying her father. She turned her head sharply to the side, trying to make sense of what she heard, but she could not - and whether it was because of her groggy mind or because the words simply had no meaning, she could neither discern.

Good luck, Gaftin. She was certainly not going to push into this any further. In fact, she might muster the willpower in a minute or two to get up and complete some made up task.

Faer lay near the fire, occassional glints of brightness flickering in the cracks of he elementals shell. He was still warm, Gaftin took that as a good sign even though the elemental showed no other real signs of progress toward recovery. Gaftin once again stoked the fire, just in case it did help.

Pulling the blue cloak a little tighter about herself, both for warmth and for the security it provided, she decided that an invented task to move herself was unnecessary after all. Sleep did not come fast this time, however. Her mind had been set into motion, something that was hard to give up. Time watched passes the slowest, and it was not quite as long as Taliera thought before she was drifting again.

Gaftin stayed awake through the night. The moon was in it's first quarter and cast a cold silver hue across the leaves. The warm red glow of the fire provided adequated heat for those nearby but not much light.

As the night moved on Gaftin sat with his back to the fire turning only to add fuel and check on the others. Legin slept soundly, Faer, if he moved, Gaftin had not seen it.

Ocassional sounds of birds, bats and other denizens of the night could be heard but they were not close. The only creature Gaftin actually saw through the night was a racoon. The racoon came close to investigate but skittered off when somebody, Gaftin did not see who, adjusted thier position.

THe sun finally began to brighten the sky first with brilliant purple which moved to orange and finally toward the bright yellow of the day.

Gaftin heated water for tea and began to fry some bacon, its smell filling the air all around the campsite.

The longevity of Elementelles, as a society and as individuals, has tempered them as patient beings at peace with their existence and the situation of their environment. Had they been as transient as Umans or their sibling races the Elementelle impression could very well be as quick-tempered or fickle as races of short lives often are. As any beings, Elementelles take their time in familiarizing themselves, with whatever.

As a young Elementelle little more than a century of circumstantially normal history, Faer found this new type of existence to be -- quite -- new. Claustrophobia -- perhaps understandable if it had been an issue -- was not an issue simply because of the utter loss of connectivity with corporeality. This is, of course, the primary reason Faer was uncomfortable where this latest vicissitude had dropped him.

The unknown would be counted as the ubiquitously top-scoring fear, no matter race or subspecies. Whether they like it or not, Elementelles are part of "everything" and they suffer from Xenophobia like any other society. This was the reason for Faer-Ahn's visits and studies in the cultures of the Worlde as well as the reason his willingness to commit to a lasting relationship with his twilight existence is less than present.

He knew nothing of his condition. He knew not if it was permanent. He knew not if it was constant. He knew not if the Worlde had gone under as a result of his retrospectively silly circle of fire.

Aniada might be less inflammable as was commonly believed. It might be in flames. My elemental spirit might have fused with the Aniada de fire. It would explain this distinct I-am-dreadfully-sorry-but-we-are-experiencing-technical-difficulties-so-no-bodies-are-currently-available feeling.

Everything in consideration, Faer was beginning to come to terms with his new self, but reluctantly. Truth be told, he deeply missed his companions.

Taliera stirred slowly, her shoulders slightly readjusting first before she realized that she was in fact awake. Being awake (and all that entailed that task) now pressed upon her mind and she sighed inwardly, contemplating as a passing whim the possiblity of just sitting there and pretending to slumber. In all honesty, that was precisely what it was, a whim to come and go just as fast, for hiding from the morning was a terribly irresponsible thing to do, especially when out in the middle of a forever road that just seemed to go on.

Yawning as she opened her eyes, the Aero lifted her head and lowered her hood, finding that the stress of the night before eased slightly. It was possible to think without being swallowed by incoming information. This by no means meant that she understood much more, for she did not suddenly become all-knowing overnight or such. It just simply meant that she was not so overwhelmed by it all.

As the tantalizing smell of breakfast wafted across the air, Taliera's eyes shifted to Gaftin, and she absently wondered if he ever slept. He always seemed to be awake. Getting to her feet and dusting the dirt off her cloak, the woman moved to settle near the fire, silently at first but then giving a greeting in her softspoken manner.

"Morning." After a moment her eyes shifted about the camp, glancing between all parties present, the frying pan, and drawn to close on the warm colours of the flame being cooked over. At that moment she narrowed her gaze, for something was itching in the back of her mind like when one knew they were forgetting something. Plucking at the inside of her cloak with thought, she peered into the fire, watching the colours dance - orange, yellow, gold, amber.

It fluttered briefly at the surface.

A crystal clear and flawlessly formed, with a deep pulsing glow of a rich amber hue. A delicate woman's hand reaching out to touch the crystal. The crystal tumbling to the floor, its glow altered and the hand that held it now gone.

There was little to it, but Taliera vaguely remembered something about a dream - this dream - from last night. As it skittered away into the recesses of wherever forgotten things go, Taliera rubbed her eyes, letting it leave easily. The mind did odd things, spinning spectular stories in dreams and such, when stressed. She could easily release a weary fiction for the memory of what the girl had spoken of took precedence. That she was still not sure of.

Taliera gave a small smile, albeit laced with a bit of nervousness. It was not often she practiced her spellweaving, and she was not entirely sure what to expect out of the situation. Obviously, she knew that he would be no worse for the wear overall, but as far as the little details like what went on inside his head - she had not the faintest idea what behaviour that might lead to.

"Good, good." Tearing off a piece of a biscuit and popping it into her mouth, she let her eyes rest on the lad. Come to think of it, she could not figure what was exactly expected of her. If she was supposed to go over and start prodding him or such, then that was just too bad. Legin looked well enough to her, and an inspection was as necessary as counting how many fingers the fellow had. Still, purely for the benefit of the situation, she spoke to the lad.

"Feeling any better?" She raised a brow in question as she ate the rest of her biscuit.

Legin nodded. I feel much better thank yew. A bit sore, but alive, and I have yew folks to thank for that.

Legin looked around a bit as he ate his biscuit then spoke up again. Will we be going into Malhik today? It is very near.

Throughout the night the Girl, too, had stayed awake with no apparent need to sleep. Tracing little meaningless symbols on the ground and whispering to herself, at times singing in a small voice a few lullabyes as though to put herself to rest. She sometimes walked between her companions, watching them with a faint smile. She felt a sense of recovery, not only for her own part. When the others started waking up, she had been sitting by herself with a serene expression on her face.

"It's all getting brighter now" she said, appreciating the simplicity of that thought. "Good morning everyone"

She looked at Taliera with affection, harbouring thoughts of dreams.

Mahlik? Is that the next town? Then the girl spoke up "Good morning everyone" and gaftin turned toward her and smiled.

Good morning to yew. Would yew like something to eat? Gaftin had grown fond of the girl in a strange way. She had her oddities but usually was pleasant. He neared the point of exhaustion having not slept most of the last three days but her being awake through the course of the night had in turn helped him stay awake.

It disturbed him that the others of thier once burgeoning party had left after the encounter with the slavers, the hoped they were ok, in particular he missed Lily. Faer was still with them, but Gaftin was not sure if that was only on body or if his spirit was with them as well.

Taliera nodded slightly, leaving the answering of questions to Gaftin. She was just along for the ride, after all. It was instead that voice of the girl that drew her attention next. Letting her eyes shift to the dark-haired girl, her lips were suddenly split with a smile. For some reason the fact that the girl was saying something that she understood completely was comforting.

"Morning." She didn't know why people said 'good morning' when they first started out. They really hadn't been awake long enough to determine whether it was a good morning or not. One might wake up to find their favourite flowerpot mysteriously on fire. That would definitely be a bad morning.

Either way, she offered a smile and ate the last of her bacon, happily full. She stood up after a minute, smoothing the wrinkles out of her clothes and pacing over to Faer. She stood there for a moment, just watching him.

Legin pulled himself up a bit, repositioning himself.

Mahlik is a town...It's just half hour or so down the road. Yew must not have known or I suspect we wouuld not have stopped here.

We have nothing to drop there so it is up to yew whether or not we stop.....I assume yew intend to keep moving.

By Fiery Elementelle (Faer)

Friday, February 22, 2008 - 3:39 pm GMT Edit | Link |

The common rule for long-lived species is that time is less of a concern than for others. Some dragonflies have a day of glory, most Elementelles have centuries. This Elementelle was realizing that sapience has little to do with the passage of time. The constant cognitive reminders was all that made the passage of time evident; it was a hesitant relief to Faer that all he had lost was his sentience.

Nevertheless, he had misgivings. He clearly recalled periods when he had been tapped of energy, often more so than he was now. It might just be mis-perception, but he had definite misgivings. If his full corporeality would return with his elemental energy -- a presumption that he was now beginning to view as overly simple, bordering on racially insulting -- it would not have taken this long.

If something more was required he feared his companions might not be sufficient, no matter how much he trusted them. He knew of no magician in Aniada, or any part of this Worlde, that held any significant amount of Elementelle knowledge. Short of one existing, he would need to metaphorically trip on a considerable stroke of luck to make a trip back to Zien-Ahn. He had sensed an Elementelle earlier, but the Worlde was a large place. Faer's only consolation was that he hadn't visited Aniada for a long time, an expert on Elementelles might have sprung up somewhere.

Perhaps his companions would have similar misgivings eventually and by a miracle track down this possibly merely fantastic magician who knew enough about Elementelles.

True to his name, Faer-Ahn was as much a lost flame as anything.

The girl seemed to taste to name of the town. "Mahlik". She frowned, one hand removing a leaf from her hair. It was strange how it seemed withered now, and she crushed it between her small fingers. "Away from civilisation. Peaceful. Don't miss Blue Carbuncle Tavern, it's supposed to have some good ale. Oh, food? I won't need any. I found some mushrooms in the forest during the night. Scarlet Knots. Very nutritious. I'm quite full. I would have brought some back, but they died..." the girl trailed off and smiled brightly at Taliera.

As was sometimes the case, daylight somehow seemed to avoid the Girl. She was not shrouded in shadow, but it almost felt as if the worlde didn't want her to be recognised. And when she slowly moved towards the Elementelle, there was the occasional blur as if her physical form wasn't quite solid, although it was hard to spot unless the observer was equipped with sharp eyes.

Her own deep eyes contained a resevoir of empathy. She reached out, almost close enough to touch, tilting her head a bit as she looked closely at him. His mind was a mystery to her, she realized. Some sensation filled her as she probed her own mind, a myriad of voices coming through, wanting to offer opinions of mixed relevance. "It's like a campfire going out" she said in wonderment. "It wants to burn but there's not enough air".
A tear vanished moments after it appeared.

Gaftin watched the young girl as she moved and listened intently as she spoke.

I understand this stretch of road has it's dangers. I intend to keep going lest someone need to stop. I would like to be off this stretch by nightfall if it is possible.

Gaftin began cleaning up the breakfast and readied the area of the cart where he had placed Faer the lest few nights.

A few more days and we can start into the mountains. he said to no one in particular.

Gaftin was unsure what the think of the girl but he had a feeling she was integral to finding Sonora, as was Faer and Taleria. Otherwse why would fate have thrown together such a diverse group as this.

Gaftin loaded Faer onto the wagon though his strength was flagging seriously due to his lack of sleep. Next he held Legin onto the wagon and the remaining things he had revoed through the night. He offered to help the ladies up and soon they would be on thier way north toward the goblin stretch and a long day as he hoped they cold get through its full length unassailed.

Faer felt this second far-reaching touch by the complex Elementelle, if indeed that was what it was. The complexity of the first contact was dwarfed into insignificance as this second contact revealed attributes in this Elementelle that Faer deemed as likely as the Everblessed being reborn.

The amazement he had felt earlier at this being existing waned as he replaced it with suppositions that it was simply his imagination or a group of Elementelles seeking to help. The arrival of a god in this worlde could and would have long lasting repercussions in this worlde dominated by less enlightened beings.

Whatever his reason convinced his mind of, the contact had shifted something inside Faer. It had dislodged an ember that floated to the surface and illuminated Faer's carapace for the blink of an eye.

Taliera did not speak at all, merely observing and helping. All the while she was looking and waiting, trying to find that time when her help would be something even a mite more substantial than simply picking up a bunch of sticks and bringing it back to the campfire. However, when offered help into the wagon, she politely declined. True that it was daylight, but she was still not eager to climb back in the wagon right now. She loved being out in the open, free of all things that would hold her down. The wagon just did not quite seem the same. It was early; she could afford to walk for a while.

Her eyes drifted between the people about her and she considered the group. She had grown fond of them, if the truth be known. Then again, it was hard to hate someone that had saved yew from having the tips of yer appendages cut off. Why people had determined that cutting feathers was completely harmless, she had not figured out. True, it was not any more painful than cutting hair, but it was a blow to the pride.

Still, looking at them all, she had to wonder what moved them to help her. It certainly ended them up in a worse place than where they were when they began. Legin got his throat cut and Faer was dead(ish?). The girl was just something that Taliera could not quite analyze. Looking, at Gaftin, though... Taliera furrowed her brow.

"Are yew alright?"

Gaftin shook his head and blinked several times thinking he had seen some sign of life in Faer but it was so brief, Gaftin dismissed it quickly as hallucination.

"Are yew alright?" Taleria asked.

I..yes. I am just a little tired, I will be okay.

Gaftin climbed into the seat of the wagon and urged the horses forward. Despite his words it was apparent that he neared the point of exhaustion.

The Girl felt almost a shock when she observed Faer, as if someone else was present as well... a volatile force that she could not at all identify. She forced herself to look away from the Elementelle, her filterless mind taking in way too much information at once. She looked to the sky as if searching for something specific, but gave up. This was beyond the level at which she could control the skills of which she was slowly becoming conscious.

The memory of the past few weeks was fragmented at best. Now it felt as if some constant echo that had prevented her from concentrating had finally dissipated. She chose to look at the Elementelle once again. She had read many books in her time at the library, but Elementelles had only been vaguely hinted at in some of them. All she could determine was what her senses told her, but some powerful force was blocking the signal.

She still recalled the dream, and vowed to herself that she would make use of her current presence of mind to decipher it. She needed to help these people, even if her abilities were limited.

A strange bond between her an Taliera was apparent in her mind, even if the Aeros did not feel it. It was almost like a sister she had never had, while she had started to think of Gaftin as an uncle. He pushed himself too hard.

With light steps, the azure-clad figure, touched Taliera's hand briefly with a sweet smile. In a low voice she said very softly "I think he's been through worse. But we'll need all our strength. We'll stick together, and it will all be well in the end. Do yew remember the woman from the dream? The crystal lives."

Nodding slowly to Gaftin, Taliera started slightly as the girl touched her hand, taken a little off guard and still a bit finicky over the whole contact issue. Then again, she immediately reprimanded herself mentally for being so jumpy. She doubted that this girl was out to hurt her; it was just a reflex developed over a few too many unwelcome grasps. Taliera knew good and well that she should just get over it, but, like many things, that was easier said than done.

Looking at the raven-headed girl, Taliera listened quietly and considered the soft smile as a friendly offering, only returning the favour. She nodded slightly in agreement with the girl's words; as odd as it was, they were comforting. When asked about remembering things, however, Taliera's eyes shift away. In her mind's eye, the memory of the woman's image was vibrantly alive. Taliera spoke in that same low voice, not entirely because she was trying to keep someone from hearing, but more because she felt as if speaking too loudly would betray some secret.

"I remember." Saying nothing more, she thought for a moment. "The crystal lives." Again, that brief image surfaced, shining in a brillant technicolour. It was like a dream of a dream, however, and she could not seem to quite remember what had surrounded that crystal of deep amber. Biting the inside of her lip, Taliera looked back at the girl thinking that perhaps it had some relevance. It was like having a puzzle and all the pieces, but trying to wear a blindfold while putting it together. It was very difficult to make things fit like they should.

"What do yew know?" Her voice was that same low tone, and the question was broad, but there was an underlying dearth to it all.

The presence Faer felt had not yet reached him - but it was coming, and it could not hide its approach.

There was, indeed, a great deal to this presence; but it was a single presence nonetheless, and it was intent on following the Elementelle, even though the distance between the two was growing ever greater.

It was persistent, this presence. It followed, even down the Lorimar to the Goblin Stretch, and beyond.

Sounds and sensations of earthshaking plodding heralded the giant stone warrior as he walked down the road. Orcs and other pests haven't assaulted me recently. Maybe they finally learned...or maybe they're planning an ambush. The mere thought of orcs planning an ambush made the golem erupt with rumbling laughter. Hah. Orcs ambushing me...even Magnus would laugh at something so absurd. Perhaps I give the surface threats too much credit. The trees had long outgrown his interest. He wanted to meet a Uman who would take the time to talk to him.

Erodyn looked up and noticed for the first time the that great burning sphere was descending beneath the lands and it was gradually growing darker. What could that be? he thought. He reached out with his hand thinking to pluck it from the air but the glowing object was much too far away. Must be one of the surface gods. I don't recall hearing about a giant light emitting god before. Or it could be some kind of magick...I'd love to find out. This and many more questions he had as walked along the road.

The thundering rock creature journeyed onward through the falling darkness. Nightwatchmen on patrol sought to avoid the strange being that was putting boot shaped holes in their stretch of road. Unbeknownst to Erodyn he walked past the capitol city of Daelows - he was more intrigued in pursuing the night time incarnation of the strange light bearing god he saw earlier. That god is very peculiar. First he was a big yellow circle and now he is a white circle that doesn't glow as much.

On the next morning, first patrol came across vast distances of imprints - the entity had surely passed through the area. One thought it was worthwhile to chase down the offender and arrest it for destruction of the kingdom's property. Being that such a rare sight as it was, his comrades and commanding officer felt this was entirely outside of their realm of expertise.

Erodyn tirelessly kept walking. Those who had seen him and then ran away from the oddity. Children tried to break away from their parents to see the "really loud knight" but they were restrained and carried off by their parents who seemingly knew better. The young ones waved so the mobile mountain simply waved back as their mothers fled with them in tow.

Soon he arrived at a barrier under construction by orcs and goblins. In a bit of irony it was he who would be ambushing them.
