LPC's - Local Personality Characters

An LPC is a "Local Personality Character" played by a game moderator. Each LPC remains permanently in a single game area and supports game scenes in his area by interacting with whatever characters pass by. Examples are tavernkeepers, city-gate guards, shop proprietors, castle staff, etc.

An LPC might move around a bit (he is not necessarily bound to a single forum page); but he will not travel far, nor join itinerant quests. His range is defined or implied on his character profile. Efforts to make him drop his local interests and prance away to distant lands will be met with frustration. Otherwise, he is just like any other character, bound and protected by the game rules.

Expect a normal response time by an LPC just as from any other character. Those who play LPC's do not sit at their computers 24/7, waiting for PC's to approach and interact. But the moderators will try to respond quickly.

Recognize an LPC by this badge: LPC

Note: The letters "PC" in the term LPC arise solely from the RPG convention of denoting a variant character type by adding a letter to "PC", such as NPC. In fact, both acronyms are misleading: NPC because there is no such thing in freeform as a "non-player" character (all characters are written by players), and LPC because a local character might more logically be called an LC. But LC does not intuitively imply a character type, so we use LPC, whether that means "local player character" or "local personality character."
