The History Of The Elves

The Elven origin is somewhat of a mystery, but according to some ancient scrolls that were recently recovered and translated in The First Librarie of Trinsic, there was once a flourishing and highly advanced civilization where the Elves lived apart from all other races. It was a continent far away called Dor Ölim or 'Land Of Light' in our language. They did not permit others races within their borders, and they only ventured out themselves to trade. The Elves lived in peace under a King that was loved by all. Enormous buildings and monuments were raised to his honor and no one lived in despair or poverty. But then, driven by famine in their own lands, came a large invasion of Goblonoids. Thousands and thousands of them invaded the Elves beloved homeland. The greenskins ravaged the peaceful inhabitants of the lands, killing women and children. Corpses covered the streets of the elves mighty capital Karas Ömel, and fire and looting raged for years. The Elven King, Arator Öril, saw no other option but to swallow his pride and thus sent emissaries out to all corners of the Worlde, begging for help to crush the greenskin invasion.

Many volunteers came to the elves rescue. Most of them were Uman, because the Dwarven King refused to send a single soldier into combat for the Elven cause, and even to this day, Elves disapprove of Dwarfs.

An army of every able-bodied elf and volunteers from all over Worlde Arcane was organized into a resistance, but things did not go too well for the elves and their allies. In a desperate last stand, Arator Öril and his few remaining troops miraculously beat the Orcs main army and captured their Chieftain. After that, the greenskins began retreating back to whence they came from in their raggedy warships. They were mercilessly pursued and killed in cold blood by the once so peaceful and civilized Elves.

King Arator Öril who suffered a mortal wound during the final battle had two sons, born seven years apart. The oldest one, Orn Öhini, was entitled to the crown after his father, but before he claimed the throne, he had to go through The Flames of Righteousness. What no one knew was that Orn Öhini and his followers had meddled with necromancy and other dark magick in a desperate attempt to defeat the Goblonoids, and this was one of the main reasons the Elves had won the crucial battle against the murderous greenskins. The King died from his wounds just before his son was going to pass through The Flames of Righteousness, and that was just as well, because Orn Öhini was horribly burnt, his corrupted soul unable to pass through the flames unharmed.

His younger brother Kel Ölam, a very ambitious young Elf, was not late to take advantage of the event. He banished his sibling and all his followers, forbidding them to ever set foot on Elven soil again. Several thousand elves followed the now monstrous Orn Öhini into exile to what we now know as the UnderNeath, somewhere in Worlde Arcane. There they planned their vengeance against Kel Ölam and experimented further with dark magick and other unspeakable things. So consumed with hatred, they did not notice their bodies began to change form; their skin became pale as ice, their hair black and their eyes red.

Back in the Elfin continent, Orn Öhini's brother ruled with an iron fist. He did nothing to rebuild the lands or help his people who suffered from the long years of war. He was only interested in filling his own coffins with gold and jewelry, a very Òun-elvishÓ behavior. The court at Karas Ömel lived a decadent life while the people died of famine in the streets and out on the fields.

The followers of Orn Öhini, or Dark Elves as they are most commonly known as these days, received reports from their spies about the tragedy that was taking place in their former homelands, but they felt no pity for the ones who had banished them from their rightful homeland. One century passed, and suddenly all reports from Dor Ölim ceased. An investigation was launched by the Dark Elves, but with no result. Orn Öhini himself decided to travel in disguise to the Elven Homelands to get an answer to what was amiss. When he reached what should have been the shores of Dor Ölim, he was shocked to find that there was nothing left but the deepest ocean. When the deformed son of Arator Öril got back from his journey he sent out spies all over the Knowne Worlde in search of answers. After some time there came reports of small Elven communities living in forests and even among Umans all over the Worlde.

According to a captured Elven mage, terrible events had taken place. Fire had rained from the sky, flowers turned black and demons had haunted the lands of Dor Ölim. Many had fled into the lands we speak of now as The Knowne Worlde, but the ocean had consumed those who had stayed. Nothing was left of The Homeland. There was only a bottomless abyss where the proud and prosperous civilization of the Elves once stood.
